The Shoulders We Stand On

B.E.S. Instructional Framework™—Belonging, Engagement, and Scholarship—also pays tribute to the educational legacy of Bernice Robinson, Esau Jenkins, and Septima Clark, the visionary architects of the Citizenship Schools movement. Their work stands as the pedagogical foundation upon which the B.E.S. Framework is built. Through grassroots education, civic literacy, and community empowerment, they transformed classrooms into spaces of liberation and possibility, equipping ordinary people with the tools to challenge injustice and participate fully in democracy.
We honor their enduring legacy by continuing their commitment to education as a pathway toward civic engagement, critical consciousness, and collective freedom. The B.E.S. Framework carries forward their belief that meaningful learning should not only inform students but also empower them to understand their communities, recognize their agency, and shape a more just future.

Who We Are
B.E.S. Instructional Framework™ (Belonging • Engagement • Scholarship) is a curriculum company that reimagines social studies as the foundation for identity, literacy, and civic life.
We provide custom-built K–12 social studies curriculum and stand-alone social studies units that guide students from understanding themselves and their communities to analyzing power, history, and democracy with confidence and purpose.
Through culturally responsive instruction, rich primary sources, discussion, and civic inquiry, students learn not only to study history but to see themselves as capable of shaping it.
Why B.E.S?
Today’s educators carry more than lesson plans. They navigate growing paperwork demands, data tracking, testing pressures, behavior support, differentiated instruction, family communication, and the daily responsibility of keeping students engaged in meaningful learning.
Too often, teachers are expected to create rigorous, culturally responsive instruction while balancing limited time and increasing responsibilities. B.E.S. Instructional Framework™ was designed to support educators — not add to their workload.
We provide a thoughtfully designed, culturally responsive social studies curriculum. Our curriculum includes detailed daily lessons, engaging slide decks, printable classroom resources, and student journals that work together to create rich and rigorous learning experiences.
Every component is designed to reduce planning fatigue while increasing student engagement, critical thinking, and historical inquiry — helping educators deliver rigorous, culturally affirming instruction.
